There is no doubt in my mind that Michigan has the greatest collection of lighthouses in the world. Once critically important to marine traffic, they no longer serve much functional purposes. Thankfully, many community organizations have stepped up to preserve these great old structures. Michigan has classic conical lighthouses, like Little Sable near Silver Lake, gothic lighthouses, like Old Mackinac and White Lake, pyramidal lighthouses like Ludington Light, and integrated structures like in St. Joseph and at Point Betsie. All in all, Michigan has 124 lighthouses, each with their own great history and beauty.
